This Pivotal colt, which we pinhooked in 2006, was sold for 125,000 guineas in October 2007. His full brother was a fabulous pinhooking success, being bought as a foal for 16,000 guineas and sold a year later for 190,000 guineas. October 2007 This Indian Ridge filly cost us 120,000 guineas, and was sold ten months later for 230,000 October 2007 Foals acquired for resale as yearlingsThis segment of the market is often called "pinhooking" where foals are bought for subsequent resale, generally as yearlings. The major European foal sales take place in November, at both Goffs and Tattersalls. We participated in the foal market in 2006 and made reasonable returns. We bought a Pivotal colt and an Indian Ridge filly, costing 265,000 guineas in aggregate. We sold them both twelve months later, for 355,000 guineas. We have not participated in this segment of the market since 2006. |
